hokkaido
Photographs were taken in 2016, on a winter trip to Japan with Pablo Suárez-Anta, specifically to the island of Hokkaido, the second largest in the country.
Japan receives cold air masses from Siberia, which pick up moisture as they cross the Sea of Japan. As this moist air moves up Japan's mountains, heavy snowfall occurs, with some areas receiving an average of three to six meters of snow.
